Many people do not know that there are different aspects of palliative care, and it is presented as a multi-faceted care plan for seriously ill patients. Palliative care is highly recommended for terminally ill patients as it can help them control symptoms, reduce the severity of pain, improve their quality of life, and choose suitable treatments that meet their goals. Hospice Patients of all ages can begin palliative care at any stage of the disease and can talk to their primary doctor regarding what kind of palliative care would be suitable for them.
Patients can avail the help of a social worker to talk to their family about a complex matter, or the social worker may even provide counseling services and resources that extend to their family.
A palliative care team can put struggling patients in touch with a faith leader if they want to reconnect to their faith in this difficult time.
Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and other chronic illnesses can affect a patient’s mental health, leading them to experience anxiety and depression. Palliative care professionals can put patients in touch with counselors, meditation experts, or support group leaders that might help reduce stress and anxiety and deal with other mental health matters effectively.
Palliative care includes physical therapy and pain management that can help patients deal with fatigue, sleep problems, nausea, vomiting, etc.
